Busting 4 Myths about Chiropractic Care with Truth
January 16, 2025

When modern people look back at ancient civilizations, they sometimes question how those societies could honestly believe in myths seen as silly now. Myths get started because humans try to make sense of or rationalize a situation even though they don’t have all the correct information. As a result, many myths still exist today because of misinformation available! Unfortunately, myths can keep people from getting help they desperately need, such as with chiropractic care. Although many more exist, here are just four myths that are based on misinformation and the truth behind them.
Myth #1: Chiropractors Only Treat Back Problems.
Although chiropractors are most known for helping patients who have back pain, this symptom isn’t their only specialty. In fact, chiropractors have training and experience treating many problems linked to the spine, joints, nerves, and their surrounding muscles and ligaments. These other issues include neck pain, headaches, joint pain (shoulder, knee, hip, or elbow), shin splints, carpal tunnel syndrome, and more!
Myth #2: Chiropractic Care Hurts.
If you’ve seen how an adjustment is performed, it may seem like it could be painful, especially if you’re already hurting. Sometimes, you can hear a cracking sound during an adjustment! However, none of your bones will break; that sound is trapped air being released as an adjustment reminds your body how it should be aligned. By the time the chiropractor is finished with your treatment, your nerves should feel less pressure and discomfort, meaning you should feel less pain.
Myth #3: Benefits or Results Take a Long Time to Feel.
Although each person’s experience can vary, many patients feel a difference even after just one treatment session. However, it’s important to note that you may not be completely “healed” right away. Depending on how long you’ve had the pain, the cause of your pain, how well you maintain a healthy lifestyle, and other factors, you may require several visits to overcome your injury. For example, if you have neck pain because of years of bad posture, you can’t expect it to instantly go away. It might take time and patience.
Myth #4: Once You Begin Chiropractic Care, You Will Always Need It.
Knowing that treatment may take some time, you may think that you’re permanently sucked in once you start chiropractic treatment. However, you don’t necessarily have to keep going for the rest of your life. You always have the choice to stop, especially once you feel relief from your pain. Just know that continuing to go in for semi-regular maintenance appointments can help you avoid injuries and keep certain pain from returning.
Like ancient Mayans, Egyptians, or Greeks, you may believe in myths that could impact your daily life and possibly prevent you from living your best life. Get the truth and the treatment you need!
